At the Feeder

Below is a listing of birds that we have seen this year, 2017.  Unfortunately, I didn’t start writing them down until the end of April, so I’m not sure when these were first spotted.  Also, it appears most of the Dark-Eyed Juncos have headed north for the year.

  • Northern Cardinal – April, May
  • Black-capped Chickadee – April
  • American Robin – April, May
  • Mourning Dove – April
  • Northern Mockingbird – April, May
  • Red-winged Blackbird – April (male spotted once!)
  • Bewick’s Wren – April
  • House Finch – April
  • House Sparrow – April (in the birdhouse)
  • Eastern Bluebird – April
  • Blue Jay – April
  • White-crowned Sparrow – April, May
  • Chipping Sparrow – April
  • Tufted Titmouse – April
  • Golden Finch – April (male, spotted twice!)
  • European Starling (?) – April (two brief glimpses, could have been a female of another species or juvenile Robin?)
  • Downy Woodpecker – April
  • Mississippi Kite – June, July (in the trees, not at the feeder)

The following birds have also been spotted in town, but not at our feeder.

  • Canada Goose – April, May
  • Scissor-tail Flycatcher – April, May
  • Turkey Vulture – April
  • Red-tailed Hawk – April
  • Common Grackle – April
  • American Crow – April
  • Purple Martin – May (Boomer Lake)
  • Mallard – May (Boomer Lake)
